Thanks to my generous department chair, Nina Levine, and amazing tech support from Tony McLawhorn, my office now has a new Dell Inspiron desktop that can actually handle some heavier computational work.
In honor of the new machine, I created a network graph of the entire corpus of Early English Books Online, Text Creation Partnership. (At least of the documents publicly released.) The total network includes 13,078 people — about half are authors; the rest are printers and booksellers, mostly — with 115,504 connections among them. Below is the entire network, pictured as a giant hairball.
